Ionian Islands


Greek Ionian Islands are located in the Ionian Sea (the Adriatic), in the west of Greece. and are an archipelago of islands in the Ionian Sea, organized as one of the 13 regions of Greece. Corfu Town is the regional capital.

They are traditionally called "Eptanisa" meaning the "Seven Islands". in Greek: Επτάνησα, Heptanēsa, or Επτάνησος, Heptanēsos, the Heptanese;), but besides the seven major islands are other smaller islands.

Ionian Sea is also called the Adriatic. Ionian Islands include some of the most popular Greek islands that attract a lot of visitors.

The seven main islands are:

     Kerkyra Corfu Greek (Κέρκυρα)
     Ithaca Itháki (Ιθάκη)
     Kefalonia Kefalonia (Κεφαλλονιά)
     Kythira Kythira (Κύθηρα)
     Lefkada Lefkada (Λευκάδα)
     Paxi Paxi (Παξοί)
     Zakynthos Zakynthos (Ζάκυνθος)
